Our Dialysis centre has highly qualified experienced and renowned doctors and supportive staff. We have Dr.Vilesh Valsalan, who is the consultant nephrologist of the Dialysis centre. Dr.Vilesh Valsalan took his DNB in Internal Medicine from Jaslok Hospital Mumbai, after which he completed his DM in Nephrology. He was awarded the J R D TATA scholarship to pursue his higher education in this field. After having earned his FNP (USA) , he established his practice and has over 10 years of experience in treating patients of all ages with different kinds of kidney ailments.
Having worked in some of the best institutions in the State and the country, he has gained valuable insight into the various aspects of kidney-oriented treatment and this is highly reflected in his research as well as paper presentations given nation wide. His popular works include his four year stint on deceased donor transplantation which has featured in the Indian Journal of transplantion-2019 and his findings on indications on Renal Replacement Therapy in ICU are found in Chapter 6 in the textbook of the ICCM Manual of RRT and ECMO in ICU. He has highlighted his research on Etiology of Pancreatitis in the textbook authored by Dr Sharad Shah. . He has also spearheaded the pilot study on developing stress condification device in association with Stanford University and IIT Mumbai. His podium presentations include that of cadaver transplant in NAK and DELITE conference and he has conducted research and published findings to evaluate outcomes of inpatients with multiorgan failure and comparison of ICU scoring systems. He has also gained an in depth knowledge of his analysis of outcome on renal transplant with marginal donors and has lent his expertise in preparation of case reports of Primary Sinusoidal Lymphoma presenting as acute liver failure (J Clin Exp Hepatol 2016 Dec. 24 5(4): 341-3) and of sternal tuberculosis in renal transplant.
The dialysis centre has been installed with 10 machines working in two shifts, being 7:00 am to 5:00pm on all days, thereby undertaking 20 dialysis a day. The cost of each haemodialysis (HD) session in India varies from Rs 350 in government hospitals to Rs 2000 in some corporate hospitals. Currently we are able to service the society by providing dialysis at Rs.350 (either catheter or fistula) as against the actual cost of Rs.1656.60 and Rs. 2124.60 incurred by our centre respectively for dialysis of per fistula and catheter patient.Apart from these expenses, we are providing complimentary monthly Kits of F6HPS Dialyzer & Blood tube to our patients which costs around Rs.1200/. This centre also provides Erythropoietin Injections at a subsidized cost as well. Even when confronted with financial hurdles, we have been graced by the Almighty to be able to provide dialysis to 500 patients per month through the noble acts of the charity minded personalities and organizations.
Despite successfully administering our ventures, thanks to the generous contributions and financial aid offered by our noble citizens, the centre continues to struggle in the financial frontiers and so finds it difficult to meet the growing needs of the patients . On comparison with major healthcare institutions ,we have proudly maintained our uniqueness in providing high quality services at reasonable and subsidized rates. Our pursuit to give the best to our patients ,despite heavy financial hurdles have resulted in three years of effective functioning and infrastructure developments which in turn, heaped a sum of 85 lakhs as its debts. Despite the heavy burden we are faced with, the institution still continues to uphold the value of care for the needy and alienated community in our society and ensures a “.no compromise”attitude in rendering quality oriented operations.
The future vision of EBDC is to create a platform where the needs of those in despair are not overlooked . To this day, the centre has stood firmly by its stand in lending a hand to the sick by rendering quality and cost effective services through maximum utilization of its the existing facilities .However, we still face lack of infrastructure to accommodate the growing numbers of patients. Having observed this, we plan to enlarge the facility’s operations by increase the number of functioning shifts and with 14 installed machines which would allow us to accommodate an additional number of 38 patients per day. This would invariably triple the number of dialysis at the centre and we will be able to provide 1400 dialysis sessions per month. But the financial obstacles confronted by us to expand our operations at this end are beyond our control as we would require approximately Rs.25lakhs to cover our operational cost.
In addition to this, we wish to establish a cancer care palliative centre alongside the dialysis centre. Recently, the centre has been offered assistance from an oncologist who is willing to dedicate her service for the palliative cancer centre. The initial move would be establishing mobile home care service so that struggling patients can be provided professional assistance and ministerial care at their own residence. The infrastructure for this project can be possible only with huge investment of fund. Overall, 2 crores would be required to establish the care home facility to accommodate both cancer and dialysis patients. This proposal would go a long way to help the economically weaker categories and those in need which is the ultimate vision of our ministry.
We believe that more financial aid from kind hearted citizens and establishments nursing a philanthropic perspective towards the society can help us fight our cause and take our mission to the next level.
For it is said ”Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done”. We assure that we will continue to hold aloft the ideals and ethics of our esteemed centre and that the Lord Almighty will enlighten our paths to serving the needy.
